“We lead strange lives, chasing our dreams around from place to place.”
~ Erin Morgenstern,
These photos were shot in 2011,hours before the very first time I ever Go Go danced at Castle McCulloch. I was hired on for a new show they had created which ended up being the very large, always sold out, The Beer And fear Bash.
Dark Circus was the theme and they had hired a makeup artist to create a sort of clown look on the dancers in that area. Clown face is not really my thing. I figured I was going to look the part but also not look exactly as I wanted. I loved this costume SO much so I needed to have it captured before I danced it to shreds during the event. I got with Keymoon Photography to make this happen.
I had the perfect location in mind. It was a sort of construction site down the road from where I lived. There was an abandoned train car there and it just screamed….shoot with me!! I love location scouting 🙂 I’m also hella good at it. We obviously shot these in October so you can see the trees in color in the background of this shot. I’ve always loved that.
The skirt of this costumes is basically….3 skirts and a petticoat with a bustle back. It was really fun to make.
Everyone ALWAYS asks about this wig! The wig was bought at Party City. The cost for it was more than the regular Party City type wigs BUT it’s amazing quality. The brand is X GEN Pleasure Wigs and I own two. They still sell these online and at some “Sex shops”. Mine was purchased YEARS ago and I just used that sucker again to perform in. It has been through rain….festivals…fire performance…me throwing it around..everything. All I do is brush it out and it’s good to go. It’s magic.
The boots are my favorite Victorian boots. I use these in Steampunk a lot. They have a very specific look that I personally feel fits MY style the best. They were purchased on Ebay, the brand slips me mind doh!
“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.”
~ Erin Morgenstern,
The event was CRAZY. Me and a friend danced up in a sort of cage and the event guests were climbing the wall to get to us. It was a mad house. It sold out and left a lot of people angry. We had no idea what to expect with it being the first year. I had me some mad clown crazy drama with my psycho boyfriend at the time and his “other girlfriend.” Must have been a full moon 🙂 BUT…I had a lot of fun.
As predicted the makeup looked true to theme but was not my thing. I have a difficult time with face paint. I tend to want to scratch it all off. It did add to the crazy clown feel I was channeling that night though 🙂 I can’t imagine what I must have looked like dancing up there. Oh no wait…that’s what photos like the one above are for!! The people were so drunk,I doubt anyone cared!
I have to say, this is a very memorable night of my life for many many reasons. It was the best of times,it was the worst of times. I had a lot going on emotionally,I had great people around me though.
